Lolit Solis said that Dr. Belo flew to the United States last Tuesday. Can she not take the heat of the consequence of her irresponsible statement about Boy Abunda?
That is one thing in showbiz. The negative response could be done by some allies.
Here is the news:
MANILA, Philippines—“Why are they ganging up on me?” Vicki Belo, celebrity aesthetic surgeon, wanted to know. Her words proved prophetic, uttered in an interview just hours before Boy Abunda shed tears on his new ABS-CBN program, “Showbiz News Ngayon” (SNN) Monday.
Abunda said he was “hurt” by Belo’s statement on GMA 7’s “Showbiz Central” on Sunday: “If you want to look like Boy Abunda, go to [rival clinic] Calayan. If you want to look like Piolo Pascual and Dingdong Dantes, go to Belo.” The personalities mentioned are endorsers of the clinics.
On Tuesday, Belo was all but crucified by Abunda’s media allies. Radio show host Jobert Sucaldito even mocked Belo’s looks and recounted rumors of patient deaths in her clinic.
Belo earlier told the Philippine Daily Inquirer that, like Abunda, she had no illusions about being beautiful.
Spokesperson Leah Gatdula denied the rumors of the deaths. In a text message, Gatdula said, “No one has died on our operating table.”
Whether Belo likes it or not, the hostilities have reached fever pitch. In a text message Tuesday, she refused to further comment “on the tirades aired on the radio or about Abunda’s statement [on SNN],” and merely noted the “loyalties of the radio commentator.” Sucaldito and Abunda are ABS-CBN talents.
Before the SNN episode, Abunda told the Inquirer that although he and Belo were no longer as close as before, “We never had a personal quarrel.” He used to handle her media relations. Abunda said, “The insinuation that I’m ugly … is cruel. I know she’s going through a lot, but that doesn’t give her license to malign anyone.”
He was referring to Belo’s recent scandalous breakup with boyfriend Hayden Kho, compounded by legal problems.
Could all this be a by-product of the raging network war? Abunda said, curtly, “I never had to be cruel to compete.”
Two sources told Inquirer that the question that elicited Belo’s controversial remark had come from her professional rival, Manny Calayan, who purportedly texted it to “Showbiz Central” host Mo Twister.
Indeed, Sucaldito on his Tuesday program read a statement said to be from Calayan, declaring full support for Abunda. But of course.
What cannot be undone
BELO: “If you want to look like Boy Abunda, go to Calayan. If you want to look like Piolo … go to Belo.”
ABUNDA: “The insinuation that I’m ugly is cruel.”
SUCALDITO: “Joke lang? Ikaw ang joke, Vicki Belo. Hindi mo na nga mabukas ang isang mata mo.”
