Aga and Claudine--Star Awardees

The movie “Blue Moon,” produced by Regal Entertainment as an entry to last year’s Metro Manila Film Festival, was declared Movie of the Year on Friday at the 22nd Star Awards for Movies held at the Grand Ballroom of the Philippine Plaza Hotel.

This year’s Star Awards introduced two new categories—Digital Movie of the Year and Digital Movie Director of the Year, apparently recognizing the emergence of digital films as a major force.

ufo Pictures’ “Ang Pagdadalaga ni Maximo Oliveros” was named Digital Movie of the Year, and its director, Aureaus Solito, Digital Movie Director of the Year.

Solito described his win as a dream that has finally come true—even if “Maxi” had already won recognition from audiences and film festivals around the world.

Aga Muhlach, who was named Actor of the Year for his role in the movie “Dubai,” admitted that awards ceremonies still made him nervous. He poked fun at himself, saying, “I’m so baduy(tacky).” Inquirer Entertainment later found out that his hands were as cold as ice minutes after he went down the stage.

He commended fellow nominee Ricky Davao (“Mga Pusang Gala”) and thanked co-stars Claudine Barretto and John Lloyd Cruz, who won Supporting Actor of the Year, for “making things easy for me.”

Aga also won as Male Face of the Night; and Ana Roces, Female Face of the Night.

Like Aga, Claudine Barretto was jittery when she received her Actress of the Year Award for “Nasaan Ka Man.” She began thanking people involved in the movie “Dubai” after a clip of the film was erroneously shown on screen.

“I was confused by that,” she later told Inquirer. “I knew I was nominated for ‘Nasaan,’ but what was shown was a clip from ‘Dubai.’ But I also thanked the people I worked with in ‘Nasaan.’

This is the fourth Best Actress award for Claudine; she received the first a few years ago for “Luna.”
