So I thought the twitter war is over. Wrong. Amalia Fuentes elevated the case to the court by charging Ruffa Gutierrez of libel.
MANILA, Philippines — Former actress Amalia Fuentes has lodged libel charges against TV host and ex-beauty queen Ruffa Gutierrez for her tweets, which Fuentes said injured her reputation.
Named as respondents were Gutierrez, writer Allan Diones and the editorial staff of the tabloid Abante, identified as Allen Macasaet, Nicolas Quijano Jr., Janet Bay, Jesus Galang, Randy Hagos, Jeany Lacorte, Ron Tamayo, Jorge Punzalan, and Lino Minor.
Fuentes filed the libel complaint on Monday afternoon before the Quezon City prosecutors office.
Gutierrez’s allegedly libelous tweets were posted on April 14 on the micro-blogging website Twitter while Abante published a story on the tweets on April 16.
In the seven-page complaint, Fuentes alleged that the ex-beauty queen accused her of inventing “false stories about” about Gutierrez and her family.
Abante ran a story on the tweets, part of the article which read: “Hindi man pinangalanan ni Ruffa ay obvious na ang bagong kaaway ng Mommy Annabelle Rama niya na si Amalia Fuentes and pinarurunggitan niya sa naturang tweets.”
The tweets did not name anyone however.
“Although the tweets of Ruffa Gutierrez did not mention any name, clearly from her interview and from the article of Allan Diones, it can be deduced that she was referring to the complainant,” Fuentes said.
“The tweets of Ruffa Gutierrez and the article of Allan Diones were publication of false charges that tends to impeach the honesty, virtue or reputation or to hold the complainant to public hatred or ridicule,” the complaint stated.
