Kris Aquino movie pulls out of MMFF

MANILA, Philippines—The Kris Aquino-starrer “Ikaw na Nga” was pulled out of this December’s Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) by its producer Star Cinema, ABS-CBN’s movie arm.

Aquino’s movie was one of eight entries in the 35th edition of the annual event, which was described by the fest’s overall chair Bayani Fernando as “the most star-studded in years.”

Among the top draws participating in this year’s fest are Sharon Cuneta, Vic Sotto, Manny Pacquiao, Bong Revilla, Marian Rivera, Willie Revillame and Dolphy.

In a letter dated July 15, Malou N. Santos, Star Cinema managing director, told Fernando that Aquino “backed out from the project due to personal reasons.”
Main reason
Santos furnished Fernando with Aquino’s resignation letter from the project, also dated July 15, in which she cited the illness of her mother, Corazon Aquino, as the main reason behind her decision.

“My mother ... is presently confined in the hospital because of complications of her colon cancer. My family and I have committed to spend as much time as we can to be with her and attend to her needs,” the younger Aquino said in her letter.
