MANILA, Philippines - Shirley Gorospe, the glamorous leading lady of Philippine cinema in the 50s and 60s, died on July 9, Saturday, due to brain tumor and lung cancer complication at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in California. She was 73.
Gorospe, along with real life husband Zaldy Zshornack, and Fernando Poe Jr., defined the musical and youth action genre of Philippine movies in the late 50s and 60s with movies like “Shirley, My Darling,” Pitong Gatang” and other films.
Her death was confirmed by Pempe Rodrigo, a friend of Gorospe and prime mover of “Balik Samahan,” a group of veteran stars that holds regular reunions.

Shirley Gorospe was the wife of the late Zaldy Zhornack. They had one son, Rizaldy.
