The mother of basketball player James Yap has come into the open to defend her son in the controversy involving him and wife, actress-TV host Kris Aquino.

In an exclusive interview aired over GMA Network’s Showbiz Central Sunday, Mrs. Annie Yap said James had been honest with Kris, adding he had even told the popular celebrity about his child from a previous relationship even before they got married five years ago.

“Oo, meron siyang nabuntis, pero alam naman yun ni Kris (He got someone pregnant before, and Kris knew all about it)," Mrs. Yap said, adding that James told Kris about his child with another woman when they were still dating.

She also said she was not in favor of James’ relationship with Kris even before they got married.

“Sa totoo lang tutol talaga ako. Alam mo naman si Kris, iba kami. Mahirap lang kami, sila mayaman

(I was not in favor of their relationship because she’s from a wealthy family and we’re just ordinary people)," she said, adding that Kris has never been “close" to the Yap family.
