Rudy Fernandez succumbed to cancer, Saturday, 6:15 Philippine time after battling the disease for two years.
He was survived by his wife Lorna Tolentino, his two sons Ralphe and Renz and his son with Alma Moreno, Mark Anthony Fernandez.
He was one of the eight children of director (Dr.) Gregorio Fernandez who started in the movies at Sampaguita Pictures.He got popular in 1970's when he did the movie the true-to-life story of Baby Ama. Other true-life characters he portrayed included military man Victor Corpuz, action star Eddie Fernandez, Baguio cop Bobby Ortega and Sen. Ping Lacson. Rudy won four Best Actor awards.
His wish to live longer made him look for alternative treatment for his peri-ampullary cancer diagnosed in 2004.
Until early this year, the couple still went to US to try some new treatment. They came back to the Philippines when doctor informed that they could do nothing more.
Rudy declined to be brought to the hospital when he was in pain a day before he died. He also instructed the family not to put him under respirator when his time comes.
He will be interred in June 12.
