MANILA, Philippines (UPDATE) - "Pilipinas Win na Win" co-host Mariel Rodriguez will undergo an operation to remove a cyst in her ovary.
In an interview, Mariel said she had known for some time that there was a cyst in her ovary. "It's benign, it's not cancerous, but I still need to have it removed," she said.
Despite the news, Rodriguez admits she has never been happier as her lovelife with current boyfriend, action star Robin Padilla, is blossoming.
"I have never been this happy. I really am contented with life. Hindi ko alam na pwede pa lang maging ganito kasaya," she said.
Mariel is set to reveal all in an exclusive interview with showbiz talkshow E-Live on Saturday. She is expected to address rumors that she and Padilla got married in India.
Mariel's "Pilipinas Win na Win" co-host, Kris Aquino, earlier said Rodriguez will be needing two weeks to recover fully from the operation.
She also gave the following words of advice to Rodriguez:
No amount of apology will pacify Claudine Barretto, who plans to sue actress Angelica Panganiban for allegedly spreading rumors about her.
The 31-year old actress said so in a tab report, adding that she will file either a libel or slander case against Angelica, who allegedly told people that she [Claudine] is having an extra-marital affair with actor Derek Ramsay’s best friend.
In previous interviews, Claudine neither confirmed nor denied the rumored rift between her and Angelica, whom she allegedly tweeted on Twitter. Before, Claudine went only as far to admit that she got “hurt” by what happened between them.
However, in an article published by a local daily on Aug. 26, Claudine said the situation has gotten “out of hand,” and that the rumors Angelica allegedly spread have caused her fights with husband Raymart Santiago.
Claudine added that Angelica spun the yarn “because she fought with my Ate,” pertaining to the word war between Angelica and Gretchen Barretto a few months back.
Later, Angelica apologized to Gretchen and since then they have become each other's “new friend.”
Claudine believes Angelica could've–should've–done the same to her but she didn't.
The legal battle begins: Controversial TV host Willie Revillame has filed a petition for the “judicial confirmation” of the rescission of his contract with ABS-CBN.
Revillame, through his legal counsel, filed the “Judicial Confirmation of Rescission of Contract with Damages” last Aug. 20 at the Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 84. On Monday, the case was raffled off with Judge Luisito Cortez declared as presiding judge.
The TV host also asks for P11.5 million in damages from the network: P5 million in moral damages, P5 million in exemplary damages, P1 million for lawyers’ fees and P500,000 for litigation costs.
MANILA, Philippines – Sweethearts Mariel Rodriguez and Robin Padilla arrived together in Manila from India at past 12 a.m. on Sunday.
Padilla and Rodriguez were holding hands at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1.
The “Pilipinas Win na Win” hosts declined to comment on whether they have already tied the knot abroad.
“There’s a proper time to talk about this matter,” Rodriguez told Gretchen Fullido of ABS-CBN News.
Rodriguez, who was wearing the diamond ring that Padilla gave her on ABS-CBN showbiz oriented talk show “E-Live” (Entertainment Live) last August 7, said they returned home to deal with something more important.
“We went home because there are bigger issues to tackle which is Robin’s son, Ali,” she added. "That's why we're back."
Ali is the youngest child of Padilla. He is set to go back to his mother, Padilla’s ex-wife Liezl Sicangco, in Australia.
A Makati City court granted Friday the request of basketball player James Yap, estranged husband of celebrity and TV host Kris Aquino, to visit their three-year-old son Baby James.
Lawyer Lorna Kapunan said the court allowed his client to be with his son on Wednesdays at 2-8 p.m. where James could bring his son to watch the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) games; and overnight stay from Friday to Saturday.
The estranged couple attended the three-hour closed-door hearing at the sala of Judge Cristina J. Sulit, Makati City Regional Trial Court (RTC) after several months of not seeing each other.
Both Yap and Aquino were accompanied by their lawyers. Also seen after the hearing was Ballsy Cruz, Aquino’s elder sister.
Kapunan described the settlement of the couple as amicable while they try to resolve the details of Yap's visitation rights over their child.
“The resolution took time because the judge talked with them together and separately a number of times,” said Kapunan.
Both James and Kris had to present documents declaring each of their incomes since 2005, the year they got married. The said documents were attached in the petition for nullification of their marriage, submitted by Kris’ camp to the Makati Family court on Aug. 9.
In an exclusive interview with entertainment site, PEP, James’ laywer, Atty. Lorna Kapunan, says that these details surfaced in connection with the division of property and conjugal money that comes with the case. In the said documents, Kris reportedly earned more than P300 million in that span of time, and James earned P20 million.
As reported by the entertainment site, Atty. Kapunan said, "There is probably an attempt here to show that she earns much more and therefore should get more of the properties. We had not made any statement yet on the properties, but James is thinking about it," sambit ni Atty. Kapunan.
MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) - Controversial actress-host Mariel Rodriguez is taking an “indefinite leave” from ABS-CBN's new hit afternoon variety-game show "Pilipinas Win na Win."
In an interview before boarding a plane at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport on Tuesday, Rodriguez said she just needs time to rest.
"I'm going away. Magbabakasyon," said Rodriguez who bared she will also visit India.
"Yeah, I'm gonna go to India. I'm gonna go wherever kung saan man ako dadalhin ng paa ko," the host said.
Rodriguez said she's not sure when she will return but vowed that she will definitely be back. She asked all her friends, fans and supporters to be happy for her.
"Hindi ko alam. I really don't know. It can be a week, it can be a month, or whatever. Babalik ako, promise. Thank you so much and be happy for me," she said.
Rodriguez said she will be following her boyfriend, Robin Padilla, who is in India for the Ramadan.
Basketball star James Yap will seek visitation rights for his son, James Yap Jr. or Baby James, following the petition for the declaration of the nullity of marriage filed by his wife, TV host-actress Kris Aquino.
In a report in GMA News' "24 Oras" Sunday, James’ lawyer Lorna Kapunan said Kris, the youngest sister of President Benigno Aquino III, sought in her petition to deprive James of custody of and visitation rights for their three-year old child.
Kapunan said Kris likewise wants her son to cease from using Yap as his last name.
“Domestic matters should always be out of court except for determination on the status of the marriage. I think matters like visitation, custody, [are] best left to the parties to talk about," Kapunan said.
Kris’ lawyer Ann Sharlyne Lapuz, on the other hand, said they are ready to answer James' petition.
MANILA, Philippines – Kris Aquino has admitted that she got upset after watching the television interview of husband James Yap’s mom.
Last week, Annie Yap publicly admitted that from the very beginning of Aquino and her son’s relationship, she already disapproved of the television host-actress.
In her taped interview on “The Buzz” aired Sunday, Aquino said it was painful to hear Annie’s disapproval of her.
“Pinanood ng mga sisters ko at siyempre noong pinag-uusapan nila, hinanap ko na din at pinanood ko. Siyempre masakit. Lahat ng kapamilya, lahat ng kapatid ko walang masama ever na sinabi tungkol kay James. Siyempre tao din naman ako. Kung maririnig ko na never kang nagustuhan siyempre masakit naman ‘yon,” she said.
She, however, maintained that she is not going to say anything derogatory toward James because, although they are separating, he is still the father of her 3-year-old son, Baby James.
“Iniisip ko na lang dahil sinabi ni ate sa akin, ‘Krissy, kung si Bimbi kung nakikihiwalay siyempre yan din ang magiging reaksyon mo. Gagawin mo ang lahat to protect your son. Walang right, walang wrong. Ang tama lang ang anak mo, ‘yong mahal mo… At para na lang sa anak namin tatahimik ako,” she said.
Mabuti na lang at hindi masyadong nagtagal ang depression na naramdaman ni Dolphy sa pagkamatay ng kapwa niya komedyanteng
Prospero Luna at Redford White.
Pero okay na si Pidol, back to work again.
MANILA, Philippines - Kris Aquino said Thursday she had nothing to do with the serving of papers to her estranged husband James Yap by court officials last Wednesday.
Aquino, in an interview with Showbiz News Ngayon, said that it was the duty of the sheriff of the Makati Regional Trial Court (RTC), to serve Yap the papers on her petition seeking to annul their marriage.
"Trabaho 'yon ng korte eh. Sherriff ang nandoon, hindi ako. Wala akong kinalaman doon kasi nasa Makati Regional Trial Court naihain na ang mga papeles noong Lunes. Ginagampanan lang nila ang duty nila na i-serve iyong papeles," she said.
She also said that it was best for her to keep quiet on the annulment issue.
"Mas maganda siguro na iwan na natin ito sa korte," she said.
The family of Kris Aquino had opposed her marriage to cager James Yap five years ago because of their 10-year age gap.
“Kung tutuusin (Truth be told), we were also not really for the marriage. First of all, the age difference," said Kris’ sister, Viel Aquino-Dee, in an interview aired over GMA News’ “24 Oras" Monday.
The interview was conducted a day after Yap’s mother, Annie Yap, said she was not in favor of her son’s marriage with Kris because of their different economic status.
As Funfare headlined yesterday, Willie Revillame did deliver a little “shocker” when he faced the movie press at Annabel’s Restaurant (Quezon City) at lunch also yesterday, his first time to come out in the open since he left (or “suspended” from) Wowowee last May.
“I’m rescinding my contract with ABS-CBN,” said Willie who was accompanied by his lawyers Leonardo de Vera and Ferdinand Domingo. Willie’s contract is good until Sept. 2011.
In a letter to Eugenio “Gabby” Lopez, ABS-CBN Chairman of the Board, signed by Willie and his lawyers, Willie said that his decision is justified by ABS-CBN’s breach of its obligations to him under his contract with the company “and its consequences which, according to their nature, should be in keeping with good faith, usage and law; and the unjust imposition of unauthorized penalties,” as follows:
The mother of basketball player James Yap has come into the open to defend her son in the controversy involving him and wife, actress-TV host Kris Aquino.
In an exclusive interview aired over GMA Network’s Showbiz Central Sunday, Mrs. Annie Yap said James had been honest with Kris, adding he had even told the popular celebrity about his child from a previous relationship even before they got married five years ago.
“Oo, meron siyang nabuntis, pero alam naman yun ni Kris (He got someone pregnant before, and Kris knew all about it)," Mrs. Yap said, adding that James told Kris about his child with another woman when they were still dating.
She also said she was not in favor of James’ relationship with Kris even before they got married.
“Sa totoo lang tutol talaga ako. Alam mo naman si Kris, iba kami. Mahirap lang kami, sila mayaman
(I was not in favor of their relationship because she’s from a wealthy family and we’re just ordinary people)," she said, adding that Kris has never been “close" to the Yap family.
Charlie, who was known for portraying character roles in the movies and TV, passed away at 11:30 a.m. at the Philippine
in Manila. His cancer was detected in 2009.
"Before he died, I was able to speak to him on the phone. My daughter said he kept nodding his head while I talked," Ricky told the Philippine Daily Inquirer. "Although I feel bad that I wasn't there with him, at least my siblings and children were all by his bedside."
Born Charlie Dabao in Iloilo City, he went to Manila in 1954 to study. He juggled being a commerce student at the University of the East and working as a commercial and print ad model.
Charlie, who would later become known for his roles as an antagonist in the movies and TV, landed his first major role in the film "Isinumpa" (Cursed) in 1959. Among his most memorable films were "Kaming Mga Talyada" (1962), with Juancho Guttierez and Jose Mari Gonzales, and "Trudis Liit" ("Little Trudis," 1993), with Vilma Santos.
He was also part of "Palengke Queen" with Nora Aunor in 1982; "Pedro Tunasan" with Lito Lapid in 1983; "Get Victor Corpus: The Rebel Soldier" with Rudy Fernandez in 1987; "The Rape of Virginia P." with Alma Moreno in 1989; and "Volta" with Ai-Ai de la Alas in 2004.

MARRIAGE WITH JAMES WAS NULL AND VOID.
BOY: Based on the interview, I think with the lawyers, na may na-mention na maaaring mayroong posibilidad na your marriage was null and void to begin with. Ano ang iyong take?
KRIS: Probably because the premise kung paano siya nagsimula, na hindi ko inamin sa pamilya ko right away, part of destiny 'yan. Kasi siguro kung kumpiyansa ako na it will really be okay and all, hindi na tayo nagtago sa bahay mo. I don't know, Boy, I have to sit down with the lawyers. I have to see the papers. It has to go through the process in court. But kung totoo 'yan at mayroon kaming mga requirements na hindi na-fullfill, at yung technicality nandoon at maru-rule nga ng korte na null and void to begin with, then maybe it's really a lesson for me. That no matter how I tried to avoid it and no matter how much my family tried to accept James, if ever, Boy, in the future—and I'm saying malayong future ito, ha—sisiguraduhin kong I'll do it correctly this time. Wala nang mga patagu-tago pa.
Embattled host-comedian Willie Revillame has come to the aid of ailing midget comedian, Mura [real name Allan Padua].
The actor is currently unable to walk after being involved in an accident a few months ago.
Revillame, through close friend, TV host Cristy Fermin, promised to shoulder all the medical expenses necessary for the rehabilitation of the talent during the Aug. 1 episode of “Paparazzi.”
In the live studio interview, Mura thanked Revillame for his generosity.
“Salamat kuya Willie sa lahat ng ginawa mo sa akin. Alam ko may problema ka din ngayon. Malaking tulong po itong ginawa ninyo sa akin. Sana gumaling na ako para personal ko kayo mapasalamatan,” said he between sobs.
The adjustments made for new noontime show “Pilipinas Win na Win” seemed confusing to some of its audience members and to at least one of its co-hosts.
This was obvious during the new “Ping Pong Pang” segment of the program with contestants—apparently used to the “Hep-Hep Hooray” portion of “Wowowee”—looking all baffled and lost. Nonetheless, the hosts, led by the indefatigable Kris Aquino, tried hard to spice up the proceedings with certain quips pointing towards controversies involving none other than herself.
Addressing one of the befuddled contestants participating in the “Ping Pong Pang” segment, Aquino said, “Bagong hiwalay ka din ba?”
Later on, she shared an adage that she recently rediscovered: “Puwedeng maraming asawa pero isa lang ang ating ina.”
She also couldn’t help but touch on the rumors surrounding co-hosts Robin Padilla and Mariel Rodriguez, as she continuously teased the two.
At the onset, with Padilla and Rodriguez standing far apart from each other, she urged the two to move closer. “Baka sabihin simula pa lang ng show pinaghihiwalay ko na kayo,” she quipped.
Later, when she saw the two seemingly whispering sweet nothings to each other, she admonished them by saying, “Robin mamaya na kayo magbulungan, trabaho muna tayo.”
Aquino, also displayed her political inclinations by praising one of the contestants, who revealed herself to be a farmer.
“For the next six years aalagaan natin ang magsasakang Pilipino,” she said, to which co-host Pokwang replied rather asininely, “Sa wakas mura na ang champorado.”
Seeing that one of the doors in the “Open-Susi-Me” portion of the show was in orange, she said: “Mahalin na natin ang orange. Let’s all move on.”
Orange was the color of her brother’s political rival, Manny Villar.
ABS-CBN tried to inject a bit more than usual to the excitement, pulling in some choice talents from their roster to augment proceedings.
Among those who appeared in the show are Piolo Pascual, Jericho Rosales, Cristine Reyes, Xyriel Manabat, EJ Falcon, Quennie Padilla, and Zaijian Jaranilla.
