Lorna Tolentino moving to Kapamilya

There had already been talks about the possible transfer of Lorna to ABS-CBN but this was denied repeatedly by her talent manager, Lolit Solis.

MANILA, Philippines- It's official. Lorna Tolentino, who was a GMA 7 talent for three years, has moved to the rival network. But Kapuso exec Wilma Galvante said Friday, “There will always be room in GMA 7 for talents like her.” Tolentino’s manager Lolit Solis said the ABS-CBN deal includes two soaps and two movies in two years. “I thought plus factor ang talk show (‘Startalk’) sa contract ng GMA 7, ’yun pala ang ayaw n’ya,” said Solis.

Was it because Lorna is sincere in saying that she does not want in talk shows where her fellow stars are the subjects of the intrigues. Or was it because it was ABS CBN which bought the rights for Rudy Fernandez movies?

Who is lying?

Gabby claimed that he did not see his father for 13 years that's why he came home. My friend swore that she saw him and his father outside the Crown Colony Condo at Hickey, Daly City, California where Gabby Concepcion used to live.

Now Gabby Concepcion's father is dead and he is blaming his agent Rose Flaminiano for his death. According to him, Flaminiano had been calling his father about their problems. Flaminiano denies. Who is lying?

MANILA, Philippines - “I told Mrs. Flaminiano not to call him, but she did. She should not have involved my father in our problems,” said actor Gabby Concepcion, whose father Rollie died on Tuesday night.

Gabby said Rollie’s fatal heart attack could have been caused by depression over the fact that his son was involved in another court case, this one filed by the actor’s own manager, Rose Flaminiano.

Rollie, who was under medication for a heart ailment, had complained of chest pains while driving along Shaw Boulevard in Mandaluyong City on Tuesday He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Lourdes Memorial Hospital in Sta. Mesa, around 10 p.m. He was 72.

“She kept calling him,” Gabby told Inquirer on Thursday night. And he always wanted to know what was happening to me, even if I kept it from him. He was hurt by the things she told him.”
Flaminiano last week filed a P22-million lawsuit against Gabby for breach of contract. It was her response to a letter that Gabby’s lawyer Raymond Fortun sent on Sept. 9, requesting that their five-year management contract be rescinded.

Gabby claimed inconsistencies in the contract, which he signed in January 2008. Flaminiano took charge of Gabby’s show biz career when the actor returned from a 13-year residence in the United States.

“My father took it very badly. He did not need to be disturbed that way, not by me or by anybody,” said the actor.

Gabby’s mom, Maria Lourdes, or “Baby”, said Rollie was a very emotional person. “All that stress was not good for him,” she told
Inquirer Entertainment on Friday during a visit to the wake.

(The elder Concepcion’s remains lie at the chapel of the family-owned O.B. Montessori de San Juan, on P. Guevarra St., San Juan. Burial is set this afternoon at the Loyola Memorial Park in Marikina City.)

Baby said Rollie was ecstatic when Gabby came home in March. “At the time, Rollie already knew that he was a walking time bomb. But he had prayed hard for Gabby to come home one day,” she said.

In any case, Baby was sure her husband did not hold ill feelings for Flaminiano. “He was deeply religious and forgiving,” she explained. “I, on the other hand, feel differently. As a mother, my instinct is to protect my child. Maybe in time I’ll learn to forgive [but] she (Flaminiano) should give me a reason.”

Gabby always said his dad was the primary reason for his return. “Work was just consequential.”

‘Why would I?’

Flaminiano told the Inquirer in a phone interview: “My condolences to the entire Concepcion family. Let us respect Gabby’s father and refrain from spreading intrigues.”

She dismissed all speculation that she had caused Rolly’s passing. “Why should I call [him]? Rolly and I never quarreled [or] discussed my misunderstanding with Gabby. He was such a nice guy.”

She is not sure she should go to the wake. “Things are still too tense.”

As for her P22-million lawsuit against Gabby, Flaminiano said, “Tuloy ang kaso.”

Court junked TRO filed by Rose Flaminiano against Gabby Concepcion

Gabby Concepcion won the first round of his legal batthe against Rose Flaminiano.

The court ruled that Flaminiano failed to prove that the termination of the contract would cause her grave and irreparable damage.

The ruling was issued in Friday by Judge Bernelito Fernandez of Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 97.

The petition for pleminary injunction is yet to be heard in October 9 where issues about the 22 million damage suits are goin to be deliberated upon.

Flamianiano filed the case on September 16 after Concepcion sent her a letter informing her of his decision to rescind their management contract for her supposed failure to disclose details of several contracts that she had entered into in his behalf.

She said the case was meant to stop the actor from accepting showbiz projects outside the contract with her.

Vina Morales is preggy

Yes, Vina Morales is pregnant. She confirmed this via text to the Philippine Daily and ABS-CBN.

The father is no other than her non-show biz boyfriend, Cedric Lee.

“I am very happy to share that I will be a mother soon. I never intended to hide my condition,” Vina said.

Rikka Dylim, public relations and publicity head of ABS-CBN’s Star Magic, separately told the Inquirer: “She’s two months pregnant and the father is her non-showbiz boyfriend Cedric Lee.”

Cedric, however, remained married to estranged wife Judy Lee, despite years of legal separation.

Can Vina and Cedric then face a possible concubinage suit?

According to a source, it is Judy’s option to file a case against her husband if Vina’s revelation would prove concubinage, or husbands maintaining active extra-marital sexual relations with “a woman not his wife,” as indicated in Article 334 of the Philippine Revised Penal Code.

Another source said that since Cedric’s annulment case from his legal wife is ongoing, Vina and Cedric cannot be sued with concubinage.

Lawyer and TV host Gaby Concepcion of GMA-7’s “Unang Hirit” however told the Inquirer: “Even if there is a pending case for declaration of nullity there can be a case for concubinage, assuming that there are grounds for the criminal case. Remember concubinage is different from adultery. Concubinage is harder to prove.”

Concubinage carries punishment of up to six years imprisonment. The Revised Penal Code, however, stated that the penalty for “concubines” is “destierro” or as defined Article 87: “Any person sentenced to destierro shall not be permitted to enter the place or places designated in the sentence, nor within the radius therein specified, which shall be not more than 250 and not less than 25 kilometers from the place designated.”

According to previously published reports, Cedric, a businessman, has two kids with Judy, ages 12 and 9.

Judy said in a television interview last year that she and Cedric were “doing fine” despite their separation. Cedric had been spending time with Judy and their children even after the break-up, reports said.

Mentor German Moreno, whose son Federico is married to Vina’s sister Sheila said, “The family is very happy about Vina’s pregnancy.”

A talent of Star Magic, Vina is scheduled to give an interview on the network’s talk show “The Buzz” on Sunday.

Vina revealed her relationship with Cedric in a tell-all interview also with “The Buzz” a year ago.

The Tactless Kris Aquino Versus Charlene Gonzalez

Kris Aquino is known for being brutally frank bordering to being tactless in speaking her mind out.

She apologized to Charlene Gonzales , the wife of Aga Muhlach and a TV host and movie actress for the rude comment that she said about Charlene's gown during an event.

MANILA, Philippines—“I did not talk about it for fear of being misquoted,” Charlene Gonzalez said, days after TV host Kris Aquino apologized for an apparently offensive comment made against the former beauty queen, also a TV host, at a fashion event.

“The industry is so small; we shouldn’t burn bridges,” Charlene told entertainment writers at a Q11 party on Tuesday.

During the recent show of designer Randy Ortiz at the Edsa Shangri-la Hotel, Kris commented that Charlene was “pa-star” because the latter’s gown was not in the shade of the set motif. At the end of the show, Charlene confronted Kris, asking, “Do you have a problem with my dress?”

In a text message to “TV Patrol” Kris said, “Obviously, [Charlene] doesn’t like me... my mistake was, I gave her another reason to dislike me…so I apologized.”

Charlene said she was happy that the public took her side when the incident was reported in the papers. “Nakakataba ng puso. I guess it means that I’ve planted good seeds through the years.”

Gabby Concepcion's father passed away

Rollie Concepcion, the father of Gabby Concepcion died Tuesday evening at Lourdes Hospital at age 72.

He was diagnosed to have enlarged heart and blocked heart arteries which could no longer be operated.

This is one of the reasons why Gabby Concepcion said that he came back to the Philippines after avoiding his court cases brought by his former wives.

So what is she promoting again? I am referring to Gretchen Barreto who was recently rumored to have been thrown out of the DasmariƱas mansion by her longtime partner Tonyboy Cojuangco.

In his column published last Friday, September 19, Philippine Star entertainment editor Ricky Lo wrote that Gretchen "was packing her things and leaving the mansion in [DasmariƱas] which she and her beloved Tonyboy Cojuangco and their daughter Dominique have been sharing even during these past turbulent years."

According to Ricky's source, "Tonyboy drove her [Gretchen] away."

The PEP's investigation yielded three information from diffrent sources.

1.Tony is not the kind to kick anybody out. He's really mabait."

2. "What news it that? She's still there."

3. "As far as their friends know, they're still in one house. Pero parang hindi nagpapansinan."

Startalk also reported last Saturday, September 21, that Gretchen herself denied the report in a phone conversation with her business manager Boy Abunda.

The speculation is that Gretchen has made amends to Tony, and is now playing the dutiful mistress.

Gabby Concepcion asks the court to junk the TRO

I thought Gabby Concepcion's lawyer is Fortun. Is Dexter Lacuanan a lawyer in Fortun's office?

Lacuanan requested the Quezon City Regional Trial Court to junk the temporary restraining order filed by Rose Flaminiano against her Gabby Concepcion.

He argued that the grounds of the petitioner for the TRO were not sufficient since under the new Civil Code, the actor has the right to rescind his contract.

Flaminiano, through her legal counsel, Bonifacio Alentajan, had asked the court to restrain Concepcion from rescinding his management contract with her.

In the same petition, Flaminiano is asking a total of P22-million in moral and exemplary damages for the irreparable injury and damages she suffered as the result of Concepcion's decision.

Records showed that on Sept. 9, 2008, Concepcion through his legal counsel, Raymond Fortun, informed Flaminiano through a letter that he is rescinding his management contract effective immediately.

Concepcion cited lack of transparency and apparent mismanagement of his financial and employment concerns as reasons why he wanted to have his management contract with Flaminiano canceled.

During the hearing, Alentajan insisted that a TRO should be issued since his client would suffer grave and irreparable injury if the actor would be allowed to rescind the management contract.

Alentajan also belied Concepcion’s allegations against his client, saying they were clearly contrary to law, morals, good customs, public order and public policy.

Lacuanan, however, explained that under Article 1191 of the Civil Code, the actor has the power to rescind his contract immediately even it is still in effect. He added that Concepcion had tried several times but failed to contact Flaminiano before he made his decision.

In the previous news, the camp of Gabby claimed that there was irregularity in the signing of contract.

Rose Flaminiano sued Gabby Concepcion for 20 million

She made good her threat. Rose Flaminiano sued Gabby Concepcion for 20 million in damages with prayer for temporary rescinding order.

The feud between the two is no longer productive for both.

Here is the news from inquirer.

Film producer Rose Flaminiano has sued actor Gabby Concepcion for specific performance and P20 million in damages with application for writ of preliminary injunction and prayer for temporary restraining order over the rescinding of their five-year talent management contract.

Flaminiano said the TRO aims to prohibit Concepcion from working. She quoted their contract which stated that Concepcion cannot “directly or indirectly negotiate with prospective clients for political and commercial endorsements.”

The TRO, Flaminano said, also covers film projects and TV shows.

Flaminiano said she felt furious after watching Concepcion’s interview on ABS-CBN’s “The Buzz” last Sunday. In the interview, Concepcion alleged that he is “rescinding” his contract with Flaminiano because of money matters and “transparency” issues.

Concepcion, through lawyer Raymund Fortun, last week sent Flaminiano a letter seeking the termination of the contract.

Flaminiano denied the actor’s claims in his interview with “The Buzz” that he was left in the dark with regard to specific contractual details, such as additions to the amount reflected in the notarized contract, which he said was higher than the amount in the document he signed. Concepcion also claimed Flaminiano did not disclose that she was producing the 22 shows he would appear in the next three months.

“Naturally, I felt bad [hearing all those lies],” she told the Inquirer in a phone interview. “When I filed the case, I cried. I felt embarrassed. I couldn’t control the tears.”

Sought for comment, Fortun said that Concepcion’s camp has no idea about the damage suit. “No comment until we get a copy [of the charge sheet],” Fortun said.

Lolit Solis defended Gabby Concepcion

Lolit Solis came to the rescue of beleaguered former talent Gabby Concepcion. She said that Gabby is not very particular with the money. I should believe her. Isn't there was a write up that she still owed Gabby some money?

Here is an excerpt of the article of Ricky Lo about this problem concerning Gabby's feud with his business manager Rose Flaminiano.

An unlikely person has come out in defense of Gabby and she’s none other than his former manager/nanay-nanayan Lolit Solis with whom Gabby had a bitter falling-out after the infamous 1994 filmfest scam.

“In fairness to Gabby,” said Lolit (who reconciled with Gabby upon his return), “hindi siya mukhang-pera. Even his family, hindi nagtatanong tungkol sa pera. Hindi pala-kuwenta si Gabby. Never kaming nag-away tungkol sa pera. Ang pinag-awayan lang namin ay ‘yung scam.”

A Tribute to Zorayda by her classmate

Zorayda A life of laughter & tears
By Ching M. Alano
Sunday, September 14, 2008

Zorayda Sanchez had a face only her mother could love, but she used her looks (or the lack of it) to shine in Philippine showbiz that loves “rare” finds as much as precious gems.

In our Journalism Class at the University of Santo Tomas, the very first batch of journalism graduates from the pontifical university, she was one of those voted least likely to succeed. But of course, the criteria were based purely on physical attributes and social graces. And the jury consisted of those mean girls in class who spent more time powdering their noses than burying them in books.

Zorayda couldn’t care less. She was simply the girl from the remote boondocks of Angono, Rizal (yes, back then, it took an eternity to get to that erstwhile hinterland). She dressed, walked, and talked the part.

But in class, you’d hardly hear Zorayda’s voice except perhaps when she would scold and go after some of the boys, who loved making fun of her. Before the class would begin, we’d see her chasing a boy classmate across the room, with the latter running for dear life and flashing the sign of a cross with his index fingers while screaming, “Aswang, aswang!” That nightly scene sure kept us entertained and awake during sleep-inducing lectures on ethics of the press and the libel law in our classes that started at 5 p.m. and ended at 9 p.m.

A lot of us did not attend the commencement exercises — the diploma was just a piece of sheepskin for us and nothing more; besides, we reckoned our lives had already commenced since most of us already had jobs. After graduation, we simply lost track of each other. But one day, we saw a familiar face in our Journ Class on TV. “Is that really you, Zorayda?” we asked with raised eyebrows.

Yes, it was Zorayda, making a splash in a detergent commercial in living color! If those mean girls in class could see her now! They would surely be swallowing their words plus a whole bar of soap. From then on, we would be referred to as the classmates of Zorayda Sanchez.

“Sikat na talaga ang classmate natin,” Alma Macrohon told me on the phone one day. “She wants to meet up with us.”

So, we agreed to meet at a supermarket. Zorayda arrived in a jeepney. I learned that Zorayda, even at the height of her popularity, remained simple. She never bought a car; she hardly took a cab, she simply commuted by bus or jeepney.

Even when she became a household name, like the detergent she was endorsing, she was still the Zorayda we knew in school. “She remained very simple, even in the way she dressed,” says Alma. “The only time I remember her having a dress made by a designer (Edward Teng) was when she attended an awards night.”

Alma adds, “Sometimes, I would just wake up one morning and see her lying in the sofa in my living room. Instead of going home to Angono when she had a shooting, she would pass the night in my house in Mandaluyong.”

Zorayda never left the family house in Angono. It burned down 15 years ago. “The fire started with the aircon and it just spread. She lost everything in that fire,” Alma recalls. “Her sister had a new house built — much bigger now. It’s a Mediterranean-style house with wooden furniture and a little garden. It’s got a big bathroom the size of a small bedroom, complete with a shower, bathtub, and cabinet. Now, I wonder if Zorayda had been able to enjoy all that.”

I must admit that it came as a shock to most of us when Zorayda became a single mom. Funny but we knew her to be the conservative, manang type who wore her dress long even when the miniskirt was all the rage. We could only guess it must have been true love. We don’t really know because Zorayda was a very private person; she never talked about her personal or professional life. All we know is Zorayda met this actor Dax Rivera, and they had a daughter named Alexis Joyce, whom she simply called Joy because she was the joy of her life. Whatever her daughter’s father did not give their daughter, Zorayda made up for a hundredfold. And it wasn’t just material things. Zorayda showered her daughter with all the love in the world. How proud she must now be of her Joy, soon to graduate from BS Biology at UP Diliman. Joy dreams of becoming a doctor.

“I’m happy for my mom because now, there’s no more pain, no more suffering,” says Joy in a TV interview. “Sobrang nahirapan siya and she wanted to go home.”

Zorayda died of breast cancer a few weeks ago. Nobody even suspected that the comedienne/writer was sick. Whenever some of our classmates would text her to ask how she was, she would either say she was okay or simply evade the question.

During her wake at home, her classmates sighed with a hint of frustration, “Nakakainis sya. If only she told us about her condition, we could have done something to help her.”

She kept her condition from everyone. She kept her pain and suffering even from her own family, always putting up a brave front and keeping herself busy at work as if there was no tomorrow. Her sister only found out when the family labandera told the former that she would always see bloodstains on Zorayda’s bra. Zorayda was immediately brought to a surgeon, who happens to be a neighbor. She had a breast removed and underwent chemotherapy. She also went to a herbalist, to whom she entrusted her life.

Alexis Joyce is an orphan now. Her father died early this year. Again, we her classmates could only guess that his death must have left Zorayda brokenhearted. Now, she had one less reason to be happy, one less reason to laugh.

If there was another thing that made Zorayda happy, it was her loyal friends (who included Evelyn Vargas, Beverly Salviejo, Tia Pusit, and Lou Veloso) and fans.

“She really didn’t want to be an actress, but she was happy when her fans would come to her for an autograph,” Alma relates. “She would answer their letters. Her fans became her friends.”

At her burial in her beloved Angono, her fans lined the streets to wave their goodbyes. But then again, old comediennes never die; their laughter just fades away.

Gabby Concepcion and Rose Flaminiano are not seeing eye to eye

Gabby Concepcion is questioning the terms in the managerial conract that he signed with Rose Flaminiano.

He wants to be released from the contract that he engaged the services of the Atty. Fortun to have the contract invalidated.

Gabby expressed his suspicions on the five-year contract with Flaminiano like the sate the contract started.

The lawyer took note of the handwritten date.

Why is he questioning only now? Were his eyes closed when he signed the contract? Was the date for the effectivity blank when he signed it?

It seems court cases and ill-fortune are still haunting Gabby Concepcion.

Why call it fund-raising when the funds are for personal needs of the promoter

I do not know why Angelica Jones had to call it fundraising when the proceeds of the concert would go to their own pockets?

I understand that they lost their condo unit when it was razed with fire but to label
a show which is meant to buy another one or to be able to start anew is beyond me.

ANGELICA JONES, BEYOND TRAGEDY. Sa ngayon, isang fund-raising show ang pinagkakaabalahan na muna ngayon ng mag-inang Jones. Angelica Jones, Beyond Tragedy ang title ng show na gaganapin sa Metro Bar on Sept. 18.

"I DON'T LIKE ANGEL'S MANAGER."

"Well, I haven't seen her but I just feel that I release her because I wanted her to grow. But I'm sorry to say that I don't like her manager [Becky Aguila] because she is a liar. If it comes to place to sue her, definitely, if I ever file an injunction, matatalo ang Star Cinema. But I don't want to do that for the sake of ABS-CBN and Gabby Lopez. Pero hindi ako okey doon sa manager. Basta Angel, I have nothing against her. She just follows her manager,"
